Keep Your Feet Safe This Halloween
Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to get excited about our favorite spooky activities, like trick-or-treating! But while you’re busy thinking about candy, we’re here to remind you to think about your feet, too.
Here are some tips to ensure you and your family have a fun and safe time while trick-or-treating this Halloween
Footwear Is Just as Important As Candy
As you walk from house to house, it’s important to make sure your shoes are comfortable and supportive. Consider wearing sneakers or boots instead of flimsy sandals or heels. You don’t want blisters or sore feet before the night ends.
Costume Hazards
Is your costume safe? It’s important to pick outfits that are safe and easy to wear. Make sure they’re not too long so people don’t trip over them. If you’ll be out after dark, choose bright colors or add shiny tape to make yourself more visible. For a night of walking, you need shoes that are easy on your feet. Avoid oversized shoes, long capes, and high heels. Dress appropriately for the weather.
Move With Other People
Trick-or-treat with family, friends, or neighbors. It’s safer to be with other people, and sharing the Halloween fun with them is more fun. If your children are 12 and under, make sure an adult supervises them.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Look for any potential hazards on the ground, such as loose gravel or broken pavement. Trick-or-treating at night can make it difficult to see where you’re stepping, so be extra cautious. It’s also a good idea to bring a flashlight with you to help illuminate your path. Use crosswalks and stop at traffic lights when crossing the street. Before you cross, look both ways and at cars to ensure they see you. Do not use your phone or other distracting things while you are walking.
Keep Water and Drinks Handy
Before going out to trick-or-treat, eat a healthy, light meal. During your trip, keep water or other drinks that will keep you hydrated and prevent foot cramps. You’ll have more energy for a night of scary fun if you stay hydrated.
