Taking the necessary precautions to protect your feet is usually forgotten when planning a day at the beach. People with foot or ankle problems or diabetes need to keep their health in mind and take necessary precautions.
You will almost certainly include the essentials on your beach checklist: sunblock, blankets, chairs, and umbrellas. To make your beach day fun-filled and happy, here are a few pointers you can use to avoid any unpleasant foot-related experiences.
1. Wearing Appropriate Footwear is Critical
When on the beach, you expect nothing but sand touching your toes. There have been instances where people have sustained an injury from sharp objects buried in the sand. It is wise to wear proper beach footwear to avoid foot injury. The pavement and sand can heat up quickly on a bright sunny day. Exposure to hot sand or dry land can cause severe burns if you are not wearing shoes.
2. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and lots of Sunscreen
Applying sunscreen on your feet before heading out to the beach is a wise decision. Your feet, too, require protection against the sun. Use a water-resistant sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. Reapply after every two hours or after swimming, whichever comes first.
3. Moisturize Your Feet After a Beach Day
A hot summer day can leave our feet exposed and vulnerable to drying. An excellent moisturizing routine can keep your skin silky soft, and healthy. Also, remember to stay hydrated and cover your feet from sun damage.
4. Keep a Beach-Specific First Aid Kit
Carry a small first-aid kit with you. If you experience a minor injury, such a kit will come in handy. Not only will you be protected should you get injured stumbling onto something at the beach, but you will also have protection in case an insect or a marine animal bites you.
Beach days are meant to be a source of great fun and relaxation for adults and children. It is an exciting day for the entire family. We should therefore identify and mitigate all possible risks. Just by taking a few necessary precautions, we can avoid unpleasant experiences. Do not compromise your foot health during the summer.
