look

In April, we celebrate National Foot Health Awareness Month. Dr. Brett Stark of Auburn Foot Care Center knows that it’s easy to look down at your feet every now and then, but what does a detailed foot inspection look like to a foot and ankle specialist? Keep reading to find Inspection 101 details — and keep up the good work!

Inspect on a schedule

Consistency is key. To make things easier, schedule a daily inspection time. Add it to your calendar, set an alarm on your phone, or make it the first thing you do as part of your wake-up routine. The benefit of a daily inspection is that it is much easier to spot something new or that something has changed. To grow confident in your foot awareness, it helps to get to know your feet better.

Look down — and around

While it may be easy to look at the obvious places on our feet, it is important to inspect both feet — top, bottom, and around. Most importantly, look closely at your toenails. Once you get in the habit, it won’t take long to do an overall inspection of your feet.

Share your updates

Don’t keep your inspection notes to yourself. If you notice anything new or if you have any changes, invite your podiatrist into the conversation. Schedule an appointment so that a foot and ankle specialist can take a closer look. They may see something that you didn’t. They may also have a quick solution, from switching shoes to prescription medication.

Invite the whole family to join you in this new routine. Now is a great time to stress the importance of foot health awareness. At Auburn Foot Care Center, Dr. Brett Stark, our board-certified podiatrist, treats a variety of conditions such as diabetic foot care, sports injuries, bunions, ingrown toenails, arthritis, and pediatric foot care.
